Martin Varsavsky, CEO and Founder
Martin is an Argentinian entrepreneur and philanthropist, and the founder of several highly
successful companies such as Viatel, Jazztel and Ya.com. Martin also teaches at the
Instituto de Empresa in Madrid, Spain and is President and Founder of The Varsavsky
Foundation and the Safe-Democracy Foundation, and was Ambassador-at-Large of

Alex oversees the company's day to day operations, strategy and partnerships. He serves on the board of directors and works closely with Martin, Fon's founder, in defining the direction of the company. He has been with Fon since its early days. Prior to Fon, Alex worked for more than eight years as a strategy consultant in the area of telecommunications and media for Booz&Co. He helped establish the Booz office in Vienna and led the telecommunications team in Madrid. Alex has worked in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, and is fluent in four languages. Alex earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Georgetown University in D.C. and a Master's Degree in International Business from the University of Vienna. Juan Pablo oversees the company's finance, accounting, and business intelligence.
Prior to Fon, Juan Pablo worked on the financial team for Yahoo! Dublin, specializing in
affiliate partner relationships. He led the migration of Yahoo! Financial applications to CRM and ERP standards. Juan Pablo received a bachelor's degree in Business
Administration from USAL, Buenos Aires and an Executive MBA from the Instituto de
Empresa, Madrid. Enrique Farfán, VP of Technology
Enrique oversees the company's technology developments together with the operation and maintenance of Fon's network, systems and infrastructure. He is also responsible for managing the integration projects with new partners and supporting existing ones. Enrique has international experience in the telecommunications and semiconductor sectors. Prior to Fon, he managed SIM-card production planning and execution at SanDisk and worked as a Sr. Engineer for microprocessor manufacturing at Intel. Enrique holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University.
Álvaro Prieto, Head of Business Development and Strategy
Álvaro oversees the company's new business development and internal consulting. Prior to Fon, Álvaro worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Company with a focus in corporate finance and retail. He also has experience from JPMorgan and UBS. Álvaro holds a BA in Business Administration from ESADE, Spain and an MBA from UCLA with a major in corporate finance and a minor in social entrepreneurship. Carlos Gómez, Head of Sales and Account Management
Carlos oversees the company’s key accounts, business intelligence and customer care. Prior to Fon he worked for 12 years in the telecommunications industry, including nine years at Nortel, specializing in Wireless Communications and Mobile Internet. He holds an MSc in Telecommunications Engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, and an MBA from the Instituto de Empresa, Madrid. Iurgi Arginzoniz, Head of Architecture
Iurgi oversees the development of the company's full range of WiFi products. Iurgi is a
WiFi technology expert and has been with Fon since its inception.
Prior to Fon, Iurgi worked as the technology manager for Air Bites, a Swisscom AG
venture. He led the development and systems teams and was responsible for technical
client relationships. He is fluent in four languages. Iurgi received a degree in
Telecommunications Engineering with a specialization in Telematics from the School of
Engineering (ESI), at University of the Basque Country, Bilbao. Jesús Mejía, Head of Legal
Jesús oversees the company's legal matters, including corporate governance, intellectual property, litigation and development. Prior to Fon, he worked for five years at Garrigues, Spain's largest Corporate and Intellectual Property Law firm. Jesús holds a double bachelor's in Law and Business, with honors, from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
